Five Less Essential Coffee Rules

Oliv

These are optional, not mandatory. Although I live by them if you will.

That’s all I can think of really. It’s all these little things that add up to a good coffee. There’ll be more little tips in the future though, not to worry.

In other news, if you didn’t notice already, I’m a contributor over at “words to shoot by”. You should go right over and check out this week’s word, “tradition”.

So true, especially the milk-part ! If milk is steamed too hot, it gets sweeter than usual and this changes the whole taste of the coffee. One thing which is happening at Starbucks daily. Sigh…

Also many people (including Starbucks again) keep the nozzle too long directly under the surface. But you just have to foam a short moment and then put the nozzle deeper in to raise the temperature. That´s the right foam to pour and with the best taste – not the thick one in which a spoon stands.

very good advice! my husband and i have recently started roasting our own beans at home. we order green ones online (they are so cheap!) and we invested in a good, but still affordable, roaster. it’s a life changer!

Ah yes, pre warming. It’s the little details. Love that.

My less essential coffee rule is to put a drop of disinfectant in the drip tray when you clean it, so it doesn’t stink if you’re lazy and forget to wash it again for a while like I do :)

Good post! And I totally agree about getting local beans. So much fresher, and I also like the idea of supporting local companies.

I own a Gaggia Classic, and I’m very happy with it. It’s not overpriced, and pretty good value.
