Favorite Coffee Shops In Berlin
When you get into the coffee groove you get a lot pickier about coffee shops. Thankfully there’s a couple of really good ones in Berlin. The list is not exhaustive, if there’s any I should know about, please let me know, and I shall give their coffee a thorough beating.
Bonanza Coffee Heroes
This was the shop that introduced me to great coffee in Berlin. Not only do they ignore the official standards for espresso and make a single espresso from twice the recommended amount of coffee, they also made me remember what great a coffee flat white is. The guys working there are super awesome and, if I may say so, as coffee-nerdy as it gets.
The shop isn’t exactly cozy, it’s all about the coffee, and it’s best when you can sit outside (duh, doesn’t it always?) I actually come here by bike just to get a coffee. It’s a twenty-minute ride from home, totally worth it.
Oliv
The Oliv is not only all about style, they have great coffee, great food, and probably the best-looking shop all around. The people walking around here can be rather stylish thanks to the neighborhood they’re in, but I don’t mind. Highly recommended when you’re in the city center of Berlin.
No Fire, No Glory
The newest kid on the block (not far from our block, to be exact), I think the guy who opened it used to work for the Bonanzas at some point, at least I remembered his face when I went there the first time. Apart from the giant, vintage cash register they have good coffee and, hold your breath, pies! Mince pies, steak pies, spinach pies, you name it. I had an Australian flashback first time we were there. Good stuff.
Godshot
The Godshot doesn’t exactly have a comfy shop, it looks a bit uncozy for my taste, but the coffee totally makes up for it. If you’re up for a flat white, ask for the slightly stronger beans, the standard ones don’t bring out the taste as much in flat white.
When you’re lucky, they have Tim Tam’s and you can do the Tim Tam Slam. Quite an experience, I’m telling you. They sell some accessories too, milk jugs
espresso ambulanz
I found this one out of pure necessity, because I needed me some good coffee. Turns out they have it. While they don’t serve flat white, their espresso and the other beverages are delish.
Most of the shops have coffee tastings from time to time, trying out new, local or foreign coffees. Some of them offer barista courses too.
